WHERE IT STARTED….
During the Summer 2019, I spent time traveling throughout America, across the many Canyons and National Parks. The Canyons had always been a place of wonder to me, with vast knowledge of history, stars and grand stories within the caves, deserts and rock formations.
I wanted to capture how you could feel the sense of stillness, with the spirit of the land speaking to you. Feeling the warmth and moisture, colour and Love of the land through lines and dreamy images corresponding into mirages almost.
Starting point was quick minute sketches, in a fast and quick motion with graphite pencil, on A5 squared paper. Moving on to painting fast strokes with black ink, as this is one of my favorite mediums to use. Lastly soft pastels, pencil and Chinese black ink as these felt more fluid to play with on A2/A1 paper, giving the fuzzy feel of the time between waking and sleeping.
